On the right side of this blog there is now a box labeled “Stuff I’ve read recently”. I started using the shared news bin feature of FeedDemon. So while reading my feeds if I think something is worth sharing I’ll add it to that feed. The box on the right will always show the last few items or if you really want to follow along you can subscribe to the feed.
Scoble’s link blog is good one to follow if you’re interested in the tech industry. Other good link blogs I should follow? Leave a comment with your link blogs.
The 250 GB drive arrived today. The Tivo is now better than ever with about 280 hours of recording time.
I’m sure you all were wondering.
The first video interview from my church is now online. We’ve been wanting to take advantage of video on the site for awhile and everything finally came together. We interviewed the team that went down to Haiti earlier this year.
I posted the video on YouTube which I had some reservations about. My first thought was that it seems a little unprofessional and would “look better” if it was hosted on our own site. But the if the idea of the site is to spread the message about Jesus, than it’s hard to ignore the large potential audience that comes with YouTube. Plus, posting on YouTube was really simple and I like doing the simplest thing that works. Your thoughts? How do other churches use YouTube?
Thanks, everyone, for your concern with the Tivo. The Tivo is back from the dead, though sort of still on life support. The good news is that I found a spare 40 GB drive to use and the InstantCake CD worked. So the Tivo is back recording. But I haven’t taken the time to setup the season pass for Criminal Minds just yet. A new 250 GB drive is should arrive on Friday and then we should have 6 times the storage space from before the Tivo death scare.
We came home yesterday from visiting Nappanee to a dead Tivo. It wasn’t totally dead but sitting at the “Welcome! Powering up…” screen. It would just sit on that screen and then every 5 minutes or so reboot and do it all over again. It seems like the most likely cause is a hard drive failure.
Since we bought the lifetime subscription a couple years ago, we really need to save this box. So the plan now is to use InstantCake with a new drive to bring the Tivo back to life. I’m just going to use a spare drive I have but if everything goes well this will be a good excuse to upgrade from the original 40 GB drive to something more in the neighborhood of 250 GB.
June 10-16 I was in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Minnesota for a fishing trip with Matt and his buddies from Heritage Middle School. We had an awesome time with great weather and lots of big fish, including a 22″ small-mouth bass that was the highlight of my trip.

A bunch of pics from Matt’s [and my] cameras. More pics from my camera later. [Update] Pictures from my camera have been added.
I made two purchases this past week that both came in resealable bags. One was pretty normal. Just some sliced turkey from the grocery store.
I thought the second was a pretty strange thing to come in a resealable bag. I bought new athletic socks at Kohls.
I really have no idea why athletics socks need to come in a resealable bag. According to some random person on the Internet, it’s so you can open it up to see how big they are without ruining the bag. Seems like a legit reason and as much as I want to trust “jpantis”, I’m leaving the socks in their resealable bags just in case the bag has some special stay fresh technology that will make them last longer.
David Berger, is a credit card daredevil. I never would have thought of my brother as a daredevil.
We have quite a few friends who are expecting babies or have recently had babies. I wonder if they considered that they need to search engine optimize (SEO) the naming of their children?
I am very grateful to my very mom and dad that they were so forward thinking. Back in 1978 I wonder if they could have realized the amazing benefits that naming me Mikel instead of Michael would have. There are about 144,000 results for mikel berger but an amazing 2,280,000 for michael berger on Google. And I always thought it was spelled Mikel just because it’s my mom’s maiden name. And I have the benefit of not being named after a faucet like little Kohler Wilson. So I saw go for a normal sounding name with a unique spelling.
It looks like the voting center software worked pretty well in the Tippecanoe County mock election yesterday. Kyle has done all of the coding work on this project but I particpated in the initial round of testing last week. Everything went well then so it was expected but still good to see that everything went pretty smooth. If you vote in Tippecanoe County in November, pay attention when you arrive at the voting center and they ask for your name. Ask if you can see the awesome software they are using
